I am a first year DO student - Anyone out there have a feedback as to what my chances are of attaining a ortho residency in of the better MD programs? Also, if anyone has any ideas on how one can improve their chances of getting into one if their chances are low to begin with. thanks

AP,

1. You need to graduate in the top 1/4 of your class.

2. You need to do meaningful research on a closely related topic - publication is preferred.

3. You need an outstanding USMLE score - 220 required, 240 preferred.

4. You need outstanding letters of recommendation from Ortho Surgeons that you rotate under.
