I was just wondering what is the average price for ortho treatment. I know that each case is different but still how much a regular orthodontist would charge for lets say 18 months treatment plan. The other question is how much will the same procedure cost if it is done at the dental school?

My sister just got her initial exam and treatment plan by an orthodontist...the price tag will end up clocking in at about $4700 over the course of three years. As for the school discount, it depends too much on the individual school for me to offer much of an answer.

I was told here that in general things at NYU dental are about 1/3 the cost from a private practice. I think it varies from treatment to treatment, but its much less then a private practice.

Hey Boyan,

I guess it depends on the complexity of the case and what you need to have done.. If you need to get braces, at our school it will run you about $1200 or more. That's pretty good compared to the $2400+ fee charged ortho patients-- 50% discount for our students. After school starts in August and you have officially registered as a UB dental student, walk on down to the Ortho department on the first floor and ask one of the ortho residents to take a look at you. So if you need orthodontic work, fret not-- Our school will take good care of you!

And get this-- If you need orthognathic surgery, the OMFS residents can actually do it for you for *free.* One of my classmates over the past Christmas break had both a Lefort-I and mandibular setback done. His jaws were wired shut for the past 6 weeks though. 😀

My fiance's ortho charged every patient $100 per month. I think no matter what the case. Apparently, he was very good and always had tons of patients. That may have made up for the lower prices.

Remember though, we are also in a rural community in IL.
