Hey all,,,

I have an announcment to make ....

There is an Orthodontics Preceptorship available at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston ..
This preceptorship involves a lot of research projects,, and some clinical exposure, you get familiar with the 3 Dimensional imaging.. for those who are interested

The benefits and privelidges are the following:
1- Certificate upon completion
2- Clinical experience as you will assist in some clinical cases, and you may get to treat a couple of cases under direct supervision.
3- Attending seminars and lectures
4- research experience and projects that may give you some publications ...
5- The program includes 4 Clinical Sessions, Case discussions at lunch times, 7 Research sessions

The Chairman is Dr.Jeryl English ,, and the direct mentor and research is director is Dr.Chung How Kau

A fee of about $30,000 for one year is required ...

Requirements for admission:,
1- BDS, DDS, or equivelant,,
2- Toefl scores

The competitve candidates are selected based on many criteria, such as their GPA, Class ranking, NBDE scores (if available), Previous experience .. each individual application is carefully reviewed on individual basis.

This information is supposed to be on the continuing education website but it is not ,,, so i had to personally contact the school of dentistry ,, and get to the department and corressponding continuing education co-ordinator ..

Any information about the length of the program? and if their certificate is valuable in the US? because from what I know Preceptorships and fellowships are mostly designated for international student and clinical aspect is very minimal.
 
the lenght of the program is one yr.
the certficate is like any other preceptroship cettficate,, it is considered as continuing education certificates..
 
Thank you for the info. do you have to be a permanent resident of US to apply? I am a permanent resident of canada with MDS degree from India. I am giving my NBDE in Dec. am I eligible to apply for the preceptorship? You said it is starting in Nov. so has it started already? Will help in getting teaching job?
I am sorry if my queries are very basic but I am new here. so please help me.

Jill,, you dont need a permenant residency to apply that's one thing i know for sure ,,,
yeah i said they start in november,, mean by that they start the applications in november,, then they review them ... i think they start in January but not quite sure of that..

Well if you apply in Dec. then you might be elgible to apply..
