I would like to begin a thread for all the students entering Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the Fall of 2002.

I look forward to entering. I think the school is excellent. The faculty and staff really care about the students. I was very impressed with them and the facilities.

Let me hear from others matriculating at OSU-COM in the Fall.

Congratulations on your acceptance. I am currently a 2nd year student at OSU, and I agree that the school is fantastic. I am sure you will be pleased with your education, and I hope some of your fellow classmates will respond soon. If I can answer any questions let me know. I don't check SDN very often anymore, but I will look back to see if you need assistance. :p

I, too am a second year here at OSU. Congrats on your acceptance. <img border="0" alt="[Clappy]" title="" src="graemlins/clappy.gif" /> I'm not sure how many responses you will get from your classmates-- I only think maybe 4 or 5 people in my class come here. OSU doesn't get a lot of press on these boards, which sometimes I think is a good thing. :)

Well, erkin777, I'm not a member of your class YET, but hopefully I will be *crossing fingers*

My interview is not until March 29. I really want to go to school here.

Any suggestions for my interview? :)

I might be a member of OSU-COM 2006 next year. I am still waiting to hear back from OU though. But OSU-COM is a great school. I think they have a great curriculum which prepares the students well for the 3rd and 4th years. Also i like the class size, that it is in tulsa (where i live) and just the feel i got when i came here, how i was a part of one big family. erkin, maybe i will see you in the fall and undergrad good luck on your interview.

    Undergrad,

Regarding the inverview, it is very professional and comfortable. They just want to know more about you. Just be yourself and honest. It is a non-pressure interview. Study the school web site and study about osteopathy.

Pilot and Homonculus, I would really like to discuss the school with you further. Can I get your e-mail address?

    Thanks!!!!!

    Erkin,
I am going to be your classmate at OSU-COM this fall. I am excited to hear about your acceptance and all others. I was wondering if you have any plans for where you will live. The apts. next to the school are pretty nice, but a little bit costly. That is where I will probably live, but anyway congrats and feel free to E-Mail me.

    Hey Pokes,

I've followed this site for a long time, and of course not everything you read here is true. There's not a strong OSU following here yet, but maybe that is starting to change.

I graduate from OSU-COM next month, and will be entering residency this July. If any of you have any questions about the next 4 years just ask. I'll be free till July to answer anything.

    Good luck!

    Hi FroDO,
Congratulations on your up coming graduation.
How was the match this year. Anyone in your class match to any surgical residency preferable Ortho, Neuro, or General surgery? Also did anyone match to any allopathic residencies, and how are their stats?

The matches went fine for most of my classmates. While I'm not sure what everyone matched into, I know that most people got their 1st or 2nd choices in their respective fields of interest.

I only know of 2 people in my class interested in surgery who were not on military scholarship. Both matched to their top choices. I think we had one person going for neurosurg - not sure on the outcome, but I suspect he matched.

Most were competing for ER spots, and to my knowledge there are only 2 ER residency programs in OK, both Osteopathic - no allopathic programs.

Also a lot of interest in Infernal Medicine and Med/Peds programs. Most matched with no problems into Osteo and NRMP (allopathic) programs. One classmate matched into Eternal Medicine at an Ivy League school.

I myself only applied to one program (NRMP) and matched.

For those of you who have looked at Westport. . .

What size of apartment are you renting? Did you get to choose your floor plan?

I have not actually seen the apartments except from a distance, but they sent me floor plans this week. Unfortunately, I don't understand about half of the symbols on it.

I'm pretty sure I will end up at Westport no matter what.

Any thoughts about WestPort in general would be appreciated! :)

    Dr. Maxy,

Did I read somewhere that a friend of yours interviewed at OSU on the 29th? That's the date I interviewed, and I just wondered if he/she got in.

I live in Tulsa and have seen the apartments at Westport on the River. They are nice apartments. They have several sizes for one bebroom apartments. The smallest one, about 450 square feet is like a large dorm room. It has no washer/dryer. I believe the medium size one bedroom has a stackable washer/dryer, and the large one bedroom has a full size washer/dryer. They quoted me a rent in the low $400's for the medium size one bedroom. They have specials for OSU-COM students. If I attend school at OSU-COM, I will definitely live at Westport. The location is great (next to the school). It is only a 100 yard walk to the school. The area is not very good, but the complex is gated.

    UNDERGRAD,
Here is some information about the WestPort Apart.
    1Bd- 460sq. ft- Rent $405-410; deposit $100

1Bd- 605sq. ft with Stackable Washer and Dryer - Rent $465-475; deposit $100

1Bd- 710sq. ft with full size Washer and Dryer, Riverviews (3rd floor) - Rent $535-560; deposit $100.

Office phone number (918)599-7180 Fax (918)583-8603

OSU-COM students get 6% off the rent(it might be between 6-10%), and also get 1/2 off the rent on June and July and 1/4 off in August all with a 12 months lease.

    Dr. Maxy,

Oh, I remember him. I had to look at my sheet from the interview though 'cause on it he's listed as being from OSU. It's nice to know that he got in; I knew of two people who were waitlisted from our group, but that's it.

I think that would be cool. In fact, one time when I talked to Leah Haines, she told me that they are considering having an "admitted students day" this summer sometime. That's not a sure thing though. I think it's a good idea.

I think meeting up with accepted OSU-COM students is a great idea. We are going to spend a lot of time together over the next few years, so we might as well get started. I live in OKC, but I don't mind meeting in Tulsa or somewhere else. Somebody make a suggestion and I will be there. :D

I'm pretty sure they have an admitted student picnic or something organized during the summer. My class (MS2)had one, the current first years had one, so I imagine you guys will have one, too. Something else-- don't buy ANYTHING yet. You will have a second year "mentor" assigned to you, who will give you at the least some good advice; and more likely, books, chummed up anatomy lab Netter's, anatomy coats/dissection kits, and maybe other goodies as well. I set my first year up pretty well, and I hope he does the same for his. You will also be able to buy your second year's microscope-- so you don't have to drop the cash on a new one. Unless you really really want to own your own :) Oh yeah, one more thing . . this is kinda bad, but i know at least one person who's done it. If your undergrad school allows you to "check out" microscopes, you may be able to keep it a little longer than usual and turn it in after Histo is over in the fall-- it'll save you some money, but it may not make your Second year too happy. :)

    Maxy,

I doubt that its full yet...or if it is, it is still likely to change. I know someone (already finished) who got accepted in June.

As far as fin aid goes, I guess its about time to call Dana.

It's good to know orientation starts on Aug. 12. I can't wait to get more information on orientation, fall classes and our second year mentor. In addition to planning, I'm just excited and ready to get started. I also start to worry when I haven't heard anything in a while -- like I've been lost in the system and I may get a letter that says it was all a mistake.

Hey everyone - I just ran across the posts. I too have been accepted into this falls class. I live north of OKC and just as everyone else, I look forward to meeting everyone and getting started!

Does anyone know when our White Coat Ceremony is?

By the way, I'm living at Westport if anyone cares.
