Just out of curiosity, when do students at OSU start seeing standardized patients? My grandmother plays a sp and she always tells me about it when I talk to her, I think she really gets a kick out of it. She always wanted to be an actress. 😀 You guys have to be nice to her. I know the skit she's supposed to do and it sounds funny as hell to me, it reminds me of a Seinfeld episode.

I was just in Tulsa last week and drove past OSU COM, i lived there for so long and never knew where it was.

We start seeing model patients for exams during 2nd year during clinical skills class and also in 3rd during mock patient encounters. If your grandmother is playing a role within a mock patient encounter, she's probably getting 3rd year students.

Hey Moskeeto,
I am a 3rd year student at OSU-COM and we just had SP interviews last month. Those mock patients are really good! They are spot on in their representation of the diseases they present with. The lady that was playing the role of a depressed patient was so convincing that I was depressed after talking to her for 10 minutes. 😀 My favorite was the mock patient who tested positive for an STD after 20+ years of marriage and the student had to tell her that her husband was cheating and she got it from him. She wasn't my patient but we all were watching the monitor as another student interviewed her. She was cursing his name under her breath and everything. She did a fantastic job. It reminded me of the Seinfeld where Kramer was trying to perfect his gonorrhea role. Tell your grandmother that we appreciate her contribution to the school and to keep up the good work.

😀 Things to look forward to.

LOL   Yeah, thats my grandmother (as long as no one else does the same thing)!! I almost fell over laughing so hard the first time she told me what she had to do. Theres nothing like having your grandmother talk to you about yeast infections and gonorrhea. I just wonder if she was cursing my real grandfathers name, shes not too fond of him. 🙂. Thats great that you guys have seen her, its such a small world. Tell everyone to be nice to her.

Dr. Mom and I will be seeing 'actual' patients next week (end of MSI)...is it rectal or is it boy/girl parts, DrMom? I can't remember😱 😱 😱 😱

Yeah, I hope I remember to wash my hands before going to Hooters after the rectal exams.
