Attending Physician
~25 B.C. In the Roman empire most doctors were Greek slaves. In fact to be a physician was a very low station in Roman society.

~circa 8th century to mid to late 1800s: Early anatomists/pathology trainees were considered practically witches because they had to dig up bodies and study them covertly. Some young pathology students were even caught and hung.

~1946: After the Second World War, doctors in England were in such short supply the government created the NHS specifically to stop physicians from charging market prices for their highly limited services.

~Fast forward to 2010, Fidel Castro the hold out dictator of one of the last Stalinist nations on Earth congratulates the US, his lifelong nemesis, in finally allowing Socialism to prosper in El Norte. There are more physicians in Cuba per capita than any nation on Earth and most live at or below the poverty level. Sensitive biomedical researchers are housed in military guarded facilities and physician scientists are often chained to the lab benchs when guards are rotated out or on holiday, unable to ever really leave.

Wow, we've come full circle. Isnt it grand boys? Isnt it grand?

LADoc I see you are an attending. Do you actually sign anything out or do you just look **** up on the innanet all day long and post it here?

Stop promoting your right wing fairy tales and bull**** here. I understand that there are two sides to every story but what exactly is your goal? What is posting your ghost stories going to accomplish here? The only thing I can imagine happening is that you probably scared away a handful of good would-have-been future pathologists. Most likely the kind that would take your job after you have been let go for dlcking around on the internet instead of looking at your cases. If you really want to make a difference take your dog and pony show to an avenue where you can make an impact instead of scaring medical students and fellows.

This is a big statement from someone posting their first post.... or hiding who they are.

You didn't give LADoc a pedicure. You didn't give him a manicure. You gave him a FACIAL.

LADoc is semi-incorrect about the NHS. It was formed as part of the labour party's plans for "cradle to grave" socialism in post WWII Britain. It wasn't designed to keep physicians from charging market rates.

But today's healthcare reforms is as much about wealth redistribution via the tax code as it is about guaranteeing healthcare for all Americans. This is among many changes we will see over the next few years. The rich will definitely get a bump in taxes and will not be able to deduct as much. Couples that make that magic amount of "a quarter of a million dollars" won't be able to deduct things like mortgage interest from their income or healthcare expenses or child care or donations to charity and the like.
