So I'm a Psych resident, will be applying in 6 months.

I need advice on LORs for my application.

Here are my potential LORs:

Psych Chairman - Very Strong
Psych PD - Very Strong
Pain Doc (Anesthesia) - Very Strong
Director of Addiction Psych - Very Strong
Neurology (Director of Stroke) - Strong
Palliative Care - Moderate Strong
CL Psych Director - Very Strong

As far as I know, I'm only allowed 3, right? Which 3 should I choose?

Do Pain PDs like Neurology? Psych? Should I choose the Neurologist over Psychiatrist? Palliative Care over Psych?

Any input appreciated, thanks!

Have four LOR ready, as a handful of programs require 4.

Agree with above. One has to be from PD or chairman anyway, so I would pick which one knows you better. This is likely your PD as residents tend to interact more with them than their chairman (I did at least). Pain attending is a must and I think the addiction letter will help you much more than a neurologist that does stroke or palliative attending. Especially with more attention being put on the addiction aspect of the multidisciplinary team I think a good letter showing you have knowledge/interest in that area will get you more points than any of the other options.

Ok thanks,

so looks like the consensus is Addiction >>> Neurologist.

I have 2 Addiction letters, 2 Neurology letters.

So I think I'm gonna go with: PD (Psych), Pain + 2 Addiction. and scrap the 2 neuro letters

You have to get the director, so that and the pain doc, and try to find another pain doc ;)

Hey Blitz, when did you get these letters? Did you request them as you went along, like if you had an addictions rotation first year did you just get it then? Or did you request all of these within the last year even if you rotated with them a longer time ago?
