Hi.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good book that I can use in learning the nuances of pain management? It seems that much of what I do is learned from seniors or occasional articles. Is there a book for a non-Pain Medicine specialist that gives a good overview of the basics, conversions, and options?
Thank you.

Most pain management resources are written for pain management specialists with a heavy focus on interventional modalities. I recall the MGH Pain Management Handbook having some decent non-interventional recommendations but it's been awhile since I looked at it.

The best way to learn it is to spend some time rotating either on a Pain Management service (preferably on an outpatient basis otherwise you'll just be watching them do nerve blocks) or on a palliative medicine rotation (although a lot of this is end stage stuff). Also, ask around and see if your program has a "go to" person for chronic pain. Most places have somebody with either a special interest or extra training in pain management and would be a good person to do an elective or extra clinic with.
