I'm sure Supernumerary will chime in here, but I will reiterate what he has been saying all along. I think most students who are Biology/Chemistry majors are defaulted into pre-med their first few years of school. Really there is no problem with that. I think Gatorwell has shown true interest in dentistry, plus her sister is in dental school, so she knows what she's getting herself into. I for one started out pre-med also, as I'm sure most people on this pre-dental forum did (I'm not saying ALL did). I just think most students are uneducated about the dental profession and are blindly guided through school by their advisors, family, peers, stigma, etc without truly educating themselves about alternative healthcare careers.
I for one strongly feel I could have gotten into medical school if I had applyed, but there was something holding me back, something that is hard to explain.....I just had a gut feeling that I wouldn't be happy with that path. So, I took a few years off to work and I've finally seen the light. 🙂 I began to look into other healthcare fields and started educating myself about dentistry. Now I'm not saying dentistry is for everyone, but I can honestly say that I have found my calling and I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else. I didn't feel that way about medicine and Gatorwell probably doesn't either. Now, it took me a while to figure that out, but I'm glad I took the time because I truly would be one unhappy medical student right now if I went that route.
I just think Gatorwell has seen the light. Sure, her MCAT scores aren't great, but if she truly wanted to go to medical school she could retake those MCAT's and get in im sure. Heck, she could prob get in SOMEWHERE with those scores. But becasue she's not, she must not be passionate about medicine. Her passion for dentistry is yet to be seen, but the fact that she is going against her parents and peers guidances and advice and applying to dental school anyway shows alot of guts. GO with your heart gatorwell, it will always lead you in the right direction.
Good Luck with your endeavors.
