Patient advocate as a career?

Hi, I have a question which may be a bit off topic but I'm just trying to figure this out and would appreciate any advice/information that might help.
I've heard about patient advocates before, and would be interested to a certain degree in it but I'm not sure that it is a career that I'd want. Can anyone give me feedback on positives & drawbacks to the job, and what it entails?
