So when we start residency as an O-3 what is factored into our pay. I know we get out base pay plus pay for BAH but is there anything else on top of that?

This is according to an old HPSP Sticky from 04' but I think it's still the same other than the total amount. Obviously Base Pay is more now and BAH is variable

1st year (FYGME): Base Pay + BAH + BAS + 100 monthly for VSP = 59K

Residents: Base Pay + BAH + BAS + full VSP = 63K

As you probably know BAH will vary by location. It's less at Ft. Nowhere and more in San Diego or DC. You can google BAH calculator to find a number for different site.

I recommend using the military pay calculator to get a better idea of what you will make

http://militarypay.defense.gov/pay/calc/index.html

For CONUS average O-3 with no time in service, pay without VSP is 62,000 a year.

If you are in the DC area it jumps to 72,000 without VSP. That does not take into consideration that BAS and BAH are not taxable, so the tax advantage of that makes for an equivalent salary of almost 82,000 as an intern.

Add prior service, or dependents and the numbers go up from there.
