guys, i am in turbotax hell. just bought a house last year and was looking forward to that hefty tax break everyone talks about. i just ran the calcs and it looks like i owe thousands!!! i feel like nancy kerrigan after she got her knee busted up("whhhhyy? whhhhhyyyyy? whhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyy?)

perhaps time spent on sdn is deductible.

You sure you entered everything right? There's mortgage interest, points on the loan origination (if applicable). The standard deduction did go up this year, so you might not make the itemization amounts necessary. Do you have children? If so, don't forget the child tax credit. Also, if you were in school last year don't forget the education credit or deduction. Be sure to update your tax software - often forms aren't finalized and calculations will be off until the final updates are available.

Personally I don't use TurboTax - I use TaxCut. Just filed mine - will be getting a nice refund back for fed and state. Also filed my FAFSA - I have an EFC of $5593. Should go down, tho - we're going to have to move and jobs wherever we go don't pay as well for my husband as where we are now.
