Hello everyone, I am a pediatric resident and I am not sure which fellowship to do. I am considering either hospitalist or neonatology. I know some hospitalists in smaller community hospitals cover level II NICU, but I don't know if they would be paid the same as NICU fellowship-trained physicians.

My question is what is the work schedule and salary difference between pediatric hospitalists and neonatologists.

Thank you.

Hospitalists tend to work 7 on 7 off. And the level 2 NICUs that they cover are like... antibiotics, NAS, 34 week preemies, and a little bit of oxygen (like 2L). Nothing that is crazy complicated.

The neos I work with work a lot, but they’re on a private practice model and like money. They are much better paid than the hospitalists.
