Yes, I know a pedi surg fellow who did not do two years of research and got into texas children's pedi surg fellowship. but it is rare. either do the two years or research, or, if you are like me and loathe research, you could always consider a critical care fellowship, which would A) be fun B) Still help.dr.evil said:Does anyone actually know a peds fellow who did not do 5 years of general surgery and 2 years of research?
I heard that everyone who matched ped surg did the 2 years of research.
Just curious.

Some years there are fewer than 20 spots available in the peds surg match because some programs only take fellows every other year. Even then, many of those spots are already promised to someone in house...either resident, a research fellow or a peds critical care fellow.
Your best bet is to do your residency in a place with peds surg fellows. Good luck!

yes, pretty muchcarve em up said:so now i have to finish gen surg residency then do research for a couple years before i can enter peds fellowship?
