What types of surgeons (obviously pediatric surgeons) perform surgery on children? And what kind of surgeries do they do?

Is there a peds ortho? or do all ortho docs do pediatric cases? or can peds surgeons do musculoskeletal cases on children? Uro peds? etc etc

i know there is peds ophtho...

Basically I'd like to know what paths I can take to provide surgical treatment for children.

Thanks everyone!

With little exception - every adult surgicla specialty has a pediatric counterpart. Pediatric general surgery generally has a wider scope of practice than does adult general sugery, but it does not extend into ortho.

In general, every speciality has a peds fellowship if you want to pursue further training and the option to treat kids. The pediatric surgery fellowship (after general surgery) basically makes you a general surgeon of the kids - you'll see everything from appys and choles and hernias (bread-and-butter G Surg stuff) to Wilm's, neuroblastomas, intussusceptions, pyloric stenoses, and so on.

All ortho docs would get an exposure to peds cases, but there is a seperate peds ortho fellowship, analgous to gen surg as the previous 2 posters mentioned.
