Hey all,

Here is the issue. I am interviewing at Penn State on the 27th-28th, which is in two days. 😱 Penn State has not sent me any sort of itinerary. I know they have two half day interview, but when does the first half day start in the AM or PM? Do I have to leave for Hershey tomorrow evening or Monday morning? Also where exactly do I go once I reach Hershey.

Thanks

I have my interview with Penn State on January 15-16. This is the itinerary they sent me: 1st interview day begins at 2:00 p.m. This is considered an "informal" day (no need to wear a suit). It will consist of a tour of the hospital, department, and OR. There will also be a group discussion with the applicants and the Residency Recruitment Committee. There will be an informal dinner that evening.

The next interview day will begin at 7:30 a.m. This day is the formal day and will consist of 1:1 interviews, a demonstration of the Simulation Lab, and will conclude early afternoon with an open discussion luncheon with the residents.

If you need lodging, then I would suggest that you give them a call. They may have already made reservations for you at one of the hotels there. They have a shuttle service that will take you from the airport to the hotel. This same shuttle service will also transport you from the hotel to the Hershey Medical Center.

Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions, PM me.

Hey thanks a lot you are a life saver. 🙂 I was able to get a hold of another friend today who pretty much confirmed the same thing. Good luck on your interviews. I will definitely let you know how the Penn State interview goes.

I see from previous posts that they are interviewing on Mon/Tuesdays.
Does anyone know if they have other days like Thu/Fri for example?
I just want to know what my options are before I call to schedule.
I'm already on a tight schedule so I don't want to sound like "hold on, let me check my calendar..." 😀
Thanks in advance

We had interviews today (dinner last night). I'll be taking some candidates out to dinner on the 11/12th of december which is also a monday/tuesday. For those interested... call Jodi Verbos... She'll let you know exactly when we are interviewing.

Well I just got back from my Penn State interview and it is an excellent program for many reasons.

Strengths

1.) Unique four year program where the intern year is incorporated into the first three years. The main advantage to this is that you will get more Anesthesia exposure in your first year than you will in a lot of other programs.

2.) State of the art hospital with state of the art facilities. One of the newest and cleanest hospitals I have toured at

3.) Broad range of cases, I think the only thing they don't do here is lung transplants.

4.) Plenty of funding for basic science, clinical, and simulator research.

5.) Friendly group of residents that truly enjoy the residency program and each other.

6. ) Program director, Dr. Kimatian, who is constantly tweaking with the program to make it better and more innovative.

7.) Affordable

Weaknesses

1.) Location- Probably the only problem with the program, but truthfully there is plenty to do in Harrisburg which is only ten minutes away. There is too much good with this program to exclude it just because of location.

For Chrisaina good luck on your interview in January.

For Venus12pam I would definitely schedule this interview. I also have a busy interviewing schedule, but I was able to make it and I found the experience rewarding

Thanks for the review ShotOfEpi.
I scheduled Penn State for mid-January.

I promised myself it would be my last interview but then I got an invitation from Northwestern and I couldn't say no 🙂

Thanks for the info ShotOfEpi. I'll keep this info in mind for my interview. Take care!
