Hello,

I got my waitlist letter in the mail today. I was wondering if they write the same letter to everyone. The second paragraph was the most important, so I've typed it in full below. Please, please, if you were waitlisted at Penn, can you reply and say if you got this same message on your letter (especially whether your letter says you are in the first tier and among those at the very top of the list) AND ALSO which tier you got, whether you had the Penn Preview tab, and whether you had the exciting time message or the generic message.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH.

Dear ChocolateKiss,

The Committee on Admissions has completed review...blah blah

There are so many talented students that we genuinely would like to accept, and yet there are limitations on the number of positions we can initially offer. Your application was very highly regarded by the Committee, and therefore, you have been placed on the first tier waitlist (underlined) -- among those at the very top of the list (underlined). Your placement on the list means that you will be one of the first students considered for admission from the waitlist. Decisions on acceptances from the waitlist may be made at any time, but generally take place no earlier than April 15 and no later than August 9.

We encourage you to visit the waitlist website at blah blah blah

We look forward to additional discussions with you. We believe that you will be an outstanding physician. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Waitlist, first tier, generic message.

My letter did not have the 'among those at the very top' part. Depressing for me, but I hope this helps you some.

I'm on the waitlist too, but haven't received my letter in the mail just yet. I was wondering, do you have the penn preview weekend tab when you log in to the admissions site?

also, where are you located geographically?

got the same message as you chocolate kisses...have you been invited to penn preview?

I was not invited to the preview weekend. However, I did have the exciting time message on my status page. Were you invited to the preview poopoo?

Hmm, so even "the very top" of tier 1 has divisions. This gets interesting. I wonder if letters exactly correlate with status page messages...

Anyone else? A sample size of three really doesn't show much

I haven't gotten my letter in the mail yet, but I'll post as soon as I do. Your letter sounds promising though, ChocolateKiss- good luck!

Hey,

Yah, there's definitely 4 classifications, and 1 and 2 get the same messages but the highest ones get invited to the Preview Weekend.

I didn't get invited, but just like Kiss got the "exciting time"-webpage and "top of the list"-letter messages.

Is there anyone on SDNet that has been accepted form the Waitlist w/o going to Preview Weekend?

I feel like it would be pretty cruel to send such a promising waitlist letter if our chances of getting off of it are low. But then again, since when has "cruelty" restrained med schools in the past?

on other threads there were comments that supposedly penn doesnt reject anyone post interview and instead creates the tier 2 facade. cruel, false hope vs tough love, its a tradeoff

Hey guys,

I just got my waitlist letter in the mail as well.

My second paragraph is worded a little differently. It says "The limitation on the number of places available in the class does not allow us to offer you an acceptance at this time. However, because the Committee thought highly of your qualifications we are placing your name on a waitlist for admission.... While there is no individual rank on the waitlist, the Committee has divided the waitlist into two tiers."

It then goes on to say in the 3rd paragraph:

"Your position on the waitlist is in the first tier (underlined), along with other very competitive applications. Placement on the first tier waitlist means that your best chance for admission consideration is between April 15th and June 30th..."

So I didn't get any sentence saying that I'm at the "very top" ot Tier 1, just that I've been placed in Tier 1 "along with other very competitive applicants." So I guess this means you have a better chance of getting in than someone like myself. Congrats!

This is the same letter I got, along with the "generic Tier 1" waitlist message on the website. While the letter is more promising than the initial website message, I still get the feeling that there are a bunch of people higher on the waitlist. I don't think I'm going to write a LOI at this point... Good luck to all of you!
