i didn't apply to NYU, so I'm hoping someone on SDN remembers... a friend of mine is considering the school and was wondering if the application is labor intensive (since it's non-AMCAS).

does NYU's application require essays? if you remember, please let me know how many and topics...

thanks!

I don't remember the exact questions, but I remember just using my AMCAS essays (I might have modified them a bit...I forget). And the rest of the application was pretty easy too. It was only 3/4 pages, and you just handwrite everything in. One whole page was devoted to what classes you took in college, and the whole front was just contact info, etc. It's a pretty straightforward, easy app.

Compared to AMCAS, it's nothin'!

It's really not difficult, just list your classes and extracurrics, etc.

Best of luck!

The essay was similar to the AMCAS essay, but I think the prompt was something like: Describe the motivational factors for your reason to enter the field of medicine. Discuss what you have done to prepare yourself, etc..Very similar to AMCAS.

There was also a paragragh that asked you to explain any periods of absences, and another to describe any factors that may have impeded your ability to excel at any point during your undergraduate experience.

It was my easiest application, though I did have to use a type writer.

They don't have a secondary, which is very nice. So, you send your transcripts, mcat scors, and LORS to them the same time you send in your app.

They started interviewing pretty early in the cycle (nonAMCAS). I interviewed in December and was waitlisted in February. No movement yet.

NYU's application does require an essay. This is what it asks: "please explain the key motivational factors in your decision to apply to medical school" (limited to a page). I used my personal statement for the AMCAS, so it wasn't bad for me. Good luck.
