At what point are you going to submit your 2007 Amcas? I mean since we're waitlisted, we not only want to get in our apps early, but we also want to apply broadly and to many schools, so as to finally get in....but with that said, at what point do you just say "ok, here goes another anywhere from 500 to 1000 bucks" for the primary? And then of course some schools will send you secondaries so quickly, and again, if you want to get them in early again, you could easily spend 1500 and still be waitlisted...its a dilemma indeed....so...anyway....when will you guys submit?

Thanks...

Most schools don't even look at primaries until July and most WL occurs during May/June.

ok, then to rephrase, at what point are you guys willing to spend 500 to 1000 on primaries (which is still alot of money)?

I've been considering this one myself....so, good thread! O.k. part of being in the game in july is having been verified at amcas by then. which means at least sending in transcripts. spent those dollars already - they're sent. now, i'm holding off on clicking 'complete'. i know that they look at the stuff in the order it comes in 'complete', and as soon as the transcripts arrive.....or, is it only complete when the transcripts arrive. because one of two things:

1) should complete now, even with transcripts not there, to be in line

2) have a bit of time to wait as transcripts arrive, and will be in the same position in line

so, maybe i'll call amcas and ask about position in line - determined when click 'complete' or when transcripts arrive and clicked 'complete'?

and what is the backup for us folks? maybe as long as we click complete a week or two before june mcat marks, we will be verified very quickly, rather than having to wait another couple of weeks and get lost...

anyone called to ask these sorts of questions?

I still haven't decided exactly when to submit AMCAS. I think I'll submit it sometime between June 14th (or whatever day is right before MCAT scores come out) and June 30th. I'd really like to avoid spending a lot of money if I can, but if I do have to reapply this year it's my goal to have everything in as early as possible.

Haha, thank you. I really hope you're right.

My optimism has been fading lately, but on the bright side now that I think I won't get in this year I'm more motivated to work on my 2007 application and a new PS.

By June 15th (the date after which your spots get dropped if you hold more than 1 acceptance), most waitlist activity will have happened already. An optimal time to re-apply would seem to be between 6/15 and 7/1.

Good rationale. And, when do April MCATS get released? Don't want to get stuck in that crush, want my app out and being looked at.

April MCAT scores are also released approximately June 15th, so it's iffy if you want to try to avoid that. That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with having your primary application sent in with that group - it's still quite early (before the August people, at least), and if you get your secondary in really early (a lot of people spend weeks on them!) you will still make your application "out and looked at" before most others.

I'm going to reapply in July or so...don't think I'll have much luck with the waitlist.

Here's another twist to this whole question that maybe you guys could help me with. I am in a Master's program at Tulane, which means my whole process has been screwed by Katrina, be that as it may, I am also waitlisted at one school and considering when I may want to reapply. The thing is, because our schedule was tweaked, I don't finish my one year masters until the end of June and transcripts won't be ready probably until July sometime. So should I submit in the end of June (if necessary), list my current classes as in progress, and then send in my final transcript separately? I think waiting to submit until July would get me further behind than I want to be. Thanks for any advice.

I'm submitting by AMCAS mid-June. I figure that way, I have given the school I am on WL at ample amount of time and have submitted my AMCAS relatively early.

And speaking of money, I just mailed in the deposit for the SMP. That hurt. Although I am 90% sure I'll end up at DC this year, that little nagging 10% uncertainty makes sending that non-refundable deposit a pain.

With SMP and AMCAS I am pretty sure I won't be getting an XBOX this decade either. And PS3 is coming out soon.

just do it....i just bought one last month. you own't regret it knowing that i'll probably be reapplying too. think about it, are you really going to go another year without saving the world from covenant? i know i can't. yes, i did buy a 360 and am using it to play halo right now since 360 games are a little on the expensive side

so you'll be listing classes you are in now, which you won't have grades for (which is fine), and then you can give amcas your current transcript, which also obviously would list those classes w/o grades. (think of it as applying at the end of your junior year in undergrad and putting down classes you will be taking in the fall of senior year) you can then send the final transcript to the schools when you get grades. up to you though, july's not that late, but it's later than all the june mcat grades (unless you are one of them anyway)

there was this game that my roommate in college had. i made a character that looked like a cat and could jump really high. it took forever to make the character. and the game starts in some house, and there's some guard, and my friend says i can't kill the guard (as in it's just no possible). but i wanted to anyway, so i tried, and then i tried to run away and use my jumping ability, then the guard killed me....then i put down the controller and never played that game again. i have a feeling it was the game you're talking about.

edit: the game may have been Fable. I'm not sure.

Might be. It starts in a jail. I tried Halo once, but I really couldn't get into it. I'm not a first-person shooter fan. Nor am I really a videogame fan, but Oblivion was fun. Now the only thing I play on the 360 is UNO.

Hey all you waitlisters. I withdrew from a bunch of schools on May 15 and one still had me on their list yesterday. I am sure there are other administrative mess ups. It will get cleared up by the end of June. Hang in there. Many of the schools I withdrew from were still sending me recruit stuff after the withdrawal (last week)--they haven't updated their classes completely yet. Yeah some are coming off the waitlist, but it isn't over yet if they are still mailing out recruit stuff on May 17 to people that withdrew.

Here's an idea (don't know if it's been said already): submit AMCAS in early June with only ONE school, so it only costs $130. It won't be processed and passed onto schools until the second week of July, so wait until then until you add more schools. If you're not in off the waitlist by mid-July, add the 20 or so schools you had planned on applying to originally. Good luck :)

That's a great idea. The hold-up with AMCAS is typically them processing/verifying your application, right? So if you do add more schools later on your application will already be ready to go and will be sent immediately to the schools?

Is it "legal" to apply to one school while you are still on the waitlist at another school?

Yup! The schools that waitlist you aren't promising you anything, and they don't expect you to put your life on hold while you're waiting. If you get off the waitlist (even after you've applied again) and you want to go to that school, you can just withdraw your application at the schools to which you've just applied. Good luck with your waitlist! :luck:

As long as you apply to schools other than the one that waitlisted you, it should not be a problem. Schools do not have access to your AMCAS unless you apply to them.

Yes, once your AMCAS is processed, you can add new schools and your app will be sent to the new schools that day.

But it doesnt matter anyways, because we're both getting off Columbia's waitlist, right? :D
