People who had interviews go poorly... what went wrong? How would you have prepared differently if given a second chance?

At my first ever interview, I was just trying wayyyyy too hard to be "that guy" who speaks to the adcom members on the tour and pretend like the school I was at was the school of my dreams because I thought that was what they wanted to hear. It was the only school I got an R from.

If I could do it different? I wouldn't do that. At my other interviews, I was more myself and they went a lot better.
