Personal statement character count

Ok, so they give you 5300 characters. Has anyone found themselves approaching this? At first I thought that I could say everything I wanted to say in much less space. However, my official character count is 5239.

Is everyone else taking this much space? I guess that's the problem with being a non-traditional: you have too much to say about the times you weren't pursuing medicine and explaining why you want to do it now.

Mine was close to the limit too. I've also read a few that were about that long as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much, assuming you've already had your essay critiqued by several people.

Mine was 5239 too...weird coincidence. I had the opposite problem...I thought it wasn't enough space for what I wanted to say.

I had to keep cutting back, mine met the 5300 limit exactly.

I believe mine was 4950 or something like close to that. Remember to make your essay effective and concise! Don't bore the adcoms!
