My wife is a Pharmacist student and a paper she is reading keeps refering to PFO. It is a "conduit to allow for the movement of emboli from the right side of the heart to the left side of the heart." This sounds like a paroxysmal embolus to me, but I am drawing a blank with regard to what PFO stands for.

As soon as I hit return it came to me....I guess it meant patent fossa ovalis.

Patent Foramen Ovale. A PFO can be identified by doing a TTE with a bubble study.
