I'm trying to decide what to do...

Right now I work as a research scientist doing cancer research and have been accepted to pharm school. Originally I thought I would keep my job but go to half time while in school to keep my benefits and make some extra $ but I recently found a program at the same hospital I work at for pharm interns. They'd like a four year commitment while in school working 8-12 hours a week during the academic year (I could go up to 20 hours if I wanted) and a few more hours in the summer. starting pay for a P1 is $14.75, it'd be a pay cut from my current job but not a major one and I'd lose my health insurance. But I'd be working in a pharmacy and not in a lab.

What would you do? Thanks in advance for any input!

Do they offer any tuition reimbursement? I think UIC pays for half of your tuition if you work in the UofI hospital's pharmacy. I think they used to pay for all of the tuition but recently changed it to only half.

nope, no tuition reimbursement 🙁

I am in a similar situation. I guess it just depends on how fast you want to get done. Personally, I think going into debt for school and insurance for four years and then start making $50 an hour outweighs working part time at ~$20 an hour and finishing school in 8 years.

I think she meant start working halftime at her job...not going halftime to school. I'm not even sure if any Pharmacy schools let students only go halftime.
