Pharmacology (I know, not Pharmacy)

So I've been interested in Pharmacology lately, as I have really taken to liking the research and development end of Pharmacy itself...that whole grad school environment appeals to me more. But here's my dilemma: I know if I receive a PharmD I should be able to gain employment, but I cannot get a straight answer out of admission reps as to what I can do with Pharmacology. It's one thing to go and get the PhD, but what can I do? Just an add on: I'm from Arkansas, UAMS is our only med school, and would not mind staying in the region as living costs are low and demand for medical professions in general is high. Anyone from Arkansas with experience that can give me some pointers, warnings, advice, etc.??
