I'm one of those people that tends to stay away from philosophical arguments and thoughts about the future. However, given that I don't know what I'll be doing yet (still) or where I'll be doing it, it's very difficult for me to not continually think about the future.

I've been driving myself mad with thought. The girlfriend situation doesn't help either. All I'm saying is, how do you guys focus on the present?

Drinking works for me. Also, sports and not doing any homework work wonders.

Just live, try to be happy, and show up when you need to get things done. The rest pretty much takes care of itself over time.

Oh, and go watch "I <3 Huckabees". I guarantee you it'll make you feel better - or at least give you some existential ideas to chew on. 🙂

I don't have any words of advice, but I feel your pain. Going on runs helps escape a little, kind of like drinking 😀

i'm a big runner. I take my ipod, but even then i sort of zone out & it's so nice
i like yoga & spinning too...

The future belongs to those who prepare for it today... (don't know where that quote is from, but I think it's relevant to your problem). Drinking is a perpetual waste of time (you drink, wake up feeling like crap, don't feel like doing anything for the rest of the day, and then drink some more because you can't believe you wasted away a whole day, get up with a headache the next morning, and repeat cycle). Do something more productive like mapping out some short term goals and then accomplishing them. Having a little faith to fall back on doesn't hurt either. But you know better than anybody else what works for YOU... so just get out there and friggin do it 👍

^ good advice whatupdoc. When the going gets tough for me I just fall back on a simple fact of life. Everything is temporary. You may be going to **** right now but nothing lasts forever in this world. At the end of the day there is only one thing we are sure of in our lives, we live to die. When I actually step back from all the crap happening around me and realize that, nothing seems too bad. I mean honestly a test I think I just blew, who knows I could do really well on the next one, or perhaps I won't even live till tomorrow? I don't know the future so why should I stress. Do what you can to fix the situation but you can only do so much. After you've done your bit, don't stress so much. You've taken care of your stuff and now its in the hands of wtever you believe its in the hands of. It also helps me to remember that after all harship comes ease, so when the going gets tough there is some sort of ease at the end of it.

good luck with what life throws your way.
