I was just watching "Meet the Press" this morning and thought to myself how funny life is....
To be a doctor is to take on the responsibility for the health and quality of life for another human being and his/her family...And for this all-important task, ADCOMS make us kill ourselves studying, jump almost impossibly high hurdles, and be nearly perfect from the day we set foot on a college campus....
Whereas doctors are responsible to people on an individual case-by-case basis, it is our political leaders who are responsible to ALL 280 MILLION of us everyday!!! In every topic under the sun, ranging from public safety, civil justice, national defense, and free and transparent markets, they are the ones responsible for us all.
But when you look at our political leadership, I wouldn't trust half of them to guard my lunch money. But still, if they "look the part", backslap with the best of them, and raise enough cash, there's no limit to high they can go...Past history, shady deals, and unethical behavior almost become irrelevant.
Am I the only one who finds this stark contrast in the standards we set for physicians vs. politicians completely crazy???
(not that this would ever change - it's just interesting from a sociological standpoint)
