Hey guys, I've been on this board for a few years now and I have experienced the ups and downs of this whole process. But this semester, I am really struggling with a few issues, one being physics! And no offense to you physics majors, but I am just really f*ckin frustrated!!!! So I need to rant:

I F*CKINNN HATE THIS FREAKIN FLIPPIN CLASS! I HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! DO THINGS JUST NEVER FREAKIN MAKE SENSE?!?! Why must you ALWAYS switch numbers around and write things out differently?!?! cos this and sin that. F=MA FINE. BUT F=M(v2/R) is the same FREAKIN THING when dealing with centripetal force?! WHO GIVES A ****?!?!?!?! And why does my teacher go so fast in lecture? SLOW THE F*CK DOWN MAN!! And why are there 2 professors but I got stuck with the harder, axnious, rushing-through-lecture-so-we-won't-get-"behind" professor?!?! After 10 minutes in lecture, I'm already lost. I ask questions but he just answers them like "well, blah blah blah. get it?" UHHH NOOOO! MY GOD THIS IS ONE F*CKED UP CLASS!

OK, I feel so much better now. I NEED to continue my A streak to show the adcoms that I am worthy of being a pharmacy student but this class is just stupid. I've taken, gen chem, bio, o-chem, microbio and am taking biochem right now. And out of all these courses, PHYSICS makes the LEAST sense. I try so hard, I study a lot, and I go to office hours. Yet I just DON'T GET IT!! I got a C on the 1st test but he will drop our lowest test grade. So I still have a chance to get an A. But at this rate, I don't see it!!!! With the other REAL science courses, I've been getting B's and A's for the past semester and a half so I am on a role. I currently have a B+ in biochem and things looks good there. But I'd be DAMNED if this DUMB physics class breaks my streak with a C or something even worse.

OK, enough ranting, for everyone who did well in this class or has a thing for physics, PLEASE tell me your secret. I am losing my mind here. And that's why I am excited to go to biochem, yet I HATE going to physics lecture. And to top it off, I took every science class at UC Davis and/or SFSU, yet this DUMB physics class is at a JC!!!! So it's supposed to be "easy." WHY?!?!

It's not just you. I took Calculus based Physics I at a community college and also struggled. My first test...I got a 30...but my professor also dropped the lowest grade, so I was able to get a B for the semester.

The only advise I have is just do as many practice problems as you can, the more you see it, the more familiar you will be with it. Also there is some helpful stuff on the internet. There is a website www.pop4e.com that actually goes with the book that we are using for Physics II, and it's very helpful. I has animations and conceptual questions that help you really get the topics. (you need an access code for this website, but check if there is something similar that goes with your book)

You can also try to google the topic that you are covering in class, because many professors put their power point presentations on-line. Its sometimes helpful to see the same thing explained different ways...one of them just may make sense.

But the best thing is to find someone in your class that can explain stuff to you. I struggled in physics I. Now I'm taking physics II (also calculus based) and I'm actually enjoying the class...only because my lab partner is brilliant...and he wants to be a teacher, so he explains stuff really good. One hour with him before the test and I got an A.

You just have to find a way that works for you. Although physics is tough...it's not impossible.

Good Luck!!!

Get a good tutor. It will be worth the $$.

Do study group and just as DHG said, "Get a good tutor. It will be worth the $$."

I was never able to pay attention in physics lecture either, other to scribble down the equations that the prof was writing on the board. But I managed an A in both Physics I & II, mostly because I practiced, practiced, practiced. My textbook was my friend.

I would make flashcards with all the equations, but with a twist - I would make sure to mark what could sub for what. Being able to switch equations back and forth was very important for both of my physics classes.

And although I'm terrible at drawing, I made sure to sketch most of the problems. It really helped to visualize what was going on in the equation.

What I actually hated the most were my physics labs - they were pooly designed and VERY poorly taught. I'm glad that my lab grade wasn't separate - I loathed one of my TAs so much I pretty much stopped trying, and my grades from the exams made up for it.

The good news is that you will most likely NEVER have to use it. I got an A in both physics I and II, both with Calc. I found them totally boring and annoying, but I
had a pretty good teacher who was an easy grader (thank god.) Stick with it, you'll be done before you know it. Also, does your college have a learning center? The tutors at mine helped me so so much, and they're free. Look into it.

I took trig based phsyics, but I can relate. My teacher was litterally a rocket scientist, and he was old and strange. I didn't understand half of what he said, and I don't understand why it is a science class instead of math class. I think getting a tutour is a good idea, especially if they are young and not so out there. On my first test I made a 52 with a 18 point curve. I don't think our teacher dropped any tests, but I still somehow made an A in the class. I'm not really sure how. Luckily, I didn't apply to any schools that required physics II.

I'm with ya. Without a doubt Physics was my most challenging class. I really found in undergrad that people who were good at physics were generally not fond of chemistry, & vice versa- I always thought that was peculiar. Hope you feel better after your vent..hang in there 🙂

me too. i hate physics too. hate it. despite it. condemn it. disgust it. ...well, u get the general idea.
anyway, I tried to study as much I could. so, work on those problems over and over again and u'll be ok it when it comes to the test.
i don't understand why we need physics. probably makes us learn to appreciate the way our world works. i do appreciate it, all right. i appreciate the fact that we don't have to take this class in pharm school. 😛

pharmforme is right. just hang in there. if everyone can do it, so can u. 👍 🙂

Just do all the problems. The only way you will be more comfortable with physics is to do as many problems as you can. Practice, practice, practice! If it makes you feel any better, I feel the same way as you do, except with O Chem, but I liked physics.
