Hi,
I'm doing a research project with an ortho research/resident at my school and we would really appreciate it if you would fill this out if you have time and I hope you'll be as candid as possible.
Basically, we are interviewing 30 or so surgical residents throughout the US to get their opinion on the hidden curriculum, i.e. pimping, and whether it's helpful. The study has been done in med students in Britain, but since pimping is so common in surgery, we thought it would be interesting to assess this style of teaching in surgical residents. This is a qualitative study we hope to publish in a national journal, so opinions are what we're searching for here.
Your answers are anonymous - the three investigators are the only ppl who know who says what.

2) How has the 80 hour week accreditation met in your residency program? Is it accepted?
3) What is the teaching methodology utilized in your residency?
4) Can you recall of incidences of teaching through humiliation, i.e. pimping?
5) Have you encountered incidences of hierarchy?
6) Is their a rights of passage mentality adopted by the upper level residents and faculty?
7) How would you characterize the treatment you have encountered during your residency?
8) Do you feel pimping, rights of passage, and hierarchy serve a purpose in a surgical residency program, and if so what is it?
