Hi everyone!

I'm currently going into my senior year of high school and I'm bombarded with college admission information. I currently reside in the Chicago area and plan to attend either Northwestern University or University of Illinois at Chicago. I'm leaning more toward UIC for it's GPPA Program. After doing much research on the GPPA program I do realize it's a competitive and prestigious program. I'm currently in the Medical Program at my high school and I do understand the hard work that comes along with being in the medical field. However, I would like to know if any of you had advice or tips that'll help me succeed as a college student in this program. Anyone already been through or currently is going through a medical program at Northwestern ot UIC? I know most of you are probably medical professionals already and there's no better source than you guys.

Thanks!

I understand you want to get into medical school, all of us on this website have been there. So this might not be what you want to hear.

I urge you to choose the program that offers the most flexibility. Guaranteed admissions programs seem like a good idea, but in reality they can be more of a noose than anything. Getting into medical school is hard, but not so hard that you should worry about a guaranteed admissions program.

I also discourage six year, BA/MD programs.

I've found it's never safe to assume your own motives years down the road.

Thanks for the information! I'll keep it in mind 🙂

I would definitely go to Northwestern if you get in and money isn't an issue. Like the other poster said, getting into medical school isn't impossible and going to Northwestern will not only give you a great education but will also provide you with more prestige points when you do decide to apply.

One other thing, I go to a great school with an even better medical school but I'm really tired of the campus and want to live in another part of the country. Unless you have your heart set on UIC - and I don't think anyone coming out of high school knows what they want, let alone what medical school is right for them - I would go NU.

Just my opinion. Good Luck.
