Hi,
I've just received Jefferson Housing information packet, but I never live in a dorm before and not really familiar with Philadelphia area, so I need some help. If you are jefferson students and had some experience living in Barringer, Orlowitz, or Martin dorms, please give me some advices?

THank you and truly appreciate it.

I go to Penn but I live right down the street from Jeff. It's a nice and not too expensive area to live in. I wonder how much they charge for their dorms and whether they're worth it?

I go to Jeff. I dont live in the housing but most of my friends do. Barringer and Orlowitz are both apartment style. I think Barringer is a lil nicer with a breakfast bar and whatnot but its also a lil more pricey. Orlowitz is pretty nice though also. Martin is a dorm with community bathrooms so many people choose not to live there. But there are at least kitchens on each floor. Overall, all the housing is super convenient because you can basically roll out of bed and get to class in less than 10 minutes. And its also nice and money-saving to be able to go to your place for lunch (if you're not attending a free lunch 😉 ) Hope that helps a bit...let me know if you have any specific questions. Welcome to the Jefferson family! 😀

As afrodite01 pointed out, the university housing is pretty nice here, I live in Orlowitz, and I agree. There are plenty of other places to live in the area as well, but the convenience of the university housing is tough to beat. Get a one bedroom if you can, the studios are pretty small. Wireless internet and lots of washers and dryers make it nice. Most of the rooms have been recently renovated ( as in the past year) so things aren't crappy. The price for a one bedroom is pretty competitive for what you'll find int he immediate area. Hope I have been of some service.

When you moved into Orlowitz, was there any furniture in your apartment? or you had to buy everything from a bed to a couch, chairs,etc... If you live with other students, how do you share the electricities bill? do you also share the cost of buying the furniture or you split up to buy your own stuff? thanks if anyone can help answer these concerns.

There is absolutely no furniture at all. You have to bring everything!

As for the sharing, I pay the bill one month and my roommate pays the next month.

For furniture, we all agreed to bring different things. I had a lot of old sofas and chairs hanging around and my roommate brought the big TV.

For our own rooms, we took care of the desks/beds/dressers ourselves.
