Hello everyone!

I graduated with a BS in neuroscience then an MS one year later. Originally had research/tenure track in mind but later switched to medicine. I applied last cycle but did not receive any II, probably due to lack of clinical volunteering hours and an unrealistic and small school list. I received secondaries from all of the schools I applied to but UC Davis, but only ended up submitting a handful of them due to an unfortunate life-changing event.

I think it really hurt my confidence and now I'm kinda unsure how strong/weak of an applicant I am. I'd really appreciate any help with my school list this year, adding or removing any schools.

Down the road, I would like to have the freedom to decide if I want to specialize, so I'm open to MD ad DO schools that would allow me to do so. Currently looking into Western among other DO schools.

Here are my stats:
  • cGPA: 3.63 (3.43 -> 3.60 -> 3.75 -> 3.84)
  • sGPA: 3.66 (3.34 -> 3.72 -> 3.82 -> 4.00)
  • Master's GPA: 4.00
  • MCAT: 513 (CP 128, CARS 128, BB 127, PS 130)
  • Permanent resident/green card, CA resident, Asian, mid-tier UC
  • LOR: research PI letter + science professor letter (prof I TA'ed for) + MD's I scribed for.
As for my ECs, I have a fair amount of research and scribe hours. I am a bit short on the volunteering side, which I tried my best to improve this year during the pandemic.
  • Clinical experience: 700 medical scribe hours; Since last cycle, I added 400 hours working as a scribe manager while scribing
  • Research: 2700 hours with a publication (second author), also did my MS thesis on this
  • 900 teaching assistant (TA) hours
  • some 100+ hours being a counselor for international students
  • 500 hours volunteering as a lab assistant
  • (new to this cycle) Hospital volunteering: 47 hours interacting with hospitalized elderlies
  • (also new to this cycle) 40 community service hours
Here's my tentative school list:

California University of Science and Medicine
Creighton
Eastern Virginia
Emory
Indiana U
Kaiser
USC

Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University

You have several state public schools on your list that accept few non residents with no connection to the state (U Washington accepts less than 1% of applicants who are not from state in the Northwest). I suggest applying to these schools:
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Hofstra
Einstein
Albany
New York Medical College
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Wake Forest
NOVA MD
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Central Florida
Tulane
TCU-UNT
Creighton
St. Louis
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
U Colorado
California University
California Northstate
Kaiser
Loma Linda (if you fit their mission)
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Riverside (only if you are from that region)
USC Keck
For DO schools you have WESTERN, TU-COM, TUNCOM and AZCOM in the West.
