Following an unsuccesfull attempt to gain admission to dental school last year (10 schools applied, 1 interview, no acceptances), I have started a masters at Johns Hopkins hoping to make me more competitive for the next application cycle (2007). I am taking Advanced Cell Bio 1 and Molecular Biology this semester and am doing very well (A's so far...with a LOT of hard work).

I originally applied to dental school last application cycle with a 2.98 cum gpa and a horrible sci gpa (~2.65). I graduated with a 3.05 cum gpa, and I'm not sure of the final sci gpa although it is higher then what I originally applied with. My DAT was 18/19/17.

So I was looking for some guidance to see if I'm on the right track. Hopefully when I apply next cycle I will have both cum and sci graduate gpa of 3.5+ and will retake the DAT this summer, shooting for nothing but 20's.

I have plenty of shadowing and volunteer experience, I believe my GPA, esp the sci gpa was my problem. But I have contacted dental schools asking for advice and no replies thus far.

Anyone else have experience with applying a 2nd time after improving GPA? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much.

I also did masters at Hopkins last year. If you get good grades, it'll definitely help for applying next year. If I were you, I would also study for DAT and retake it. If your AA and TS is above 20, it'll improve your chances dramatically, IMHO.
