Actually i'm writing this for my friend. She is a freshmen at my state school. She has had problems adjusting to life in the U.S and college life itself. She ended up with a 2.6 g.p.a her freshmen year fall semester. Now she is really depressed and not sure whether she wants to apply to med school at all. I know she can do, because she got 3.8 the spring semester of freshmen year. Does she have a chance? Your advice is always appreciated.

Of course she has a chance. First of all, ADCOMS realize that adjusting to school, especially far from home, can be difficult.
As long as your grades get better over time and not worse.

Besides, her freshman GPA would be:
(3.8 + 2.6) / 2 = 3.2 cumulative

Not too bad.

Best of luck to you (and your friend)!
