hi everyone,

I was wondering do you guys think that it really makes a big difference where you go to medical schools. I mean I know if you go to harvard it would be better but after the top 30 schools does it make a difference where you go in terms of how good a residency you get and which field. I have been accepted in Medical University of Ohio at Toledo and North East Ohio University College of Medicine. Have you guys heard anything about either way as to regards if they are a good school or not or any advice as to where I should go. I want to go to NEOUCOM because i could live at home and save a ton of money but I also want to think of the longrun and see which the better school is.

Your help is really appreciated.

Ultimately a medical education is a medical education. You have several things to consider when you are applying to medical school. Your GPA and MCAT, tuition, state residency, extracuric. all play a role on your competiveness as an applicant. You also have to consider the programs philosophies and curriculums. Buy an MSAR from the AAMC. I can't stress this enough. You will use this again and again when deciding which schools to apply to. I applied to Ohio schools (I am from NY), but took into account what types of research are offered and how the curriculums are set up. You have to decide which schools are best for you. Ohio schools are fine, but you have to decide on what suits you best. If you have any questions, PM me.

I don't know much about NEOUCOM, but I also was accepted at MUO and I've really looked at their match list...And it looks awesome. You can see that many, many people match into competitive specialties and there were some big-name program matches, too. I also really liked how their average step 1 was 218, a very respectable score. As far as rankings, everyoen is saying that now that the school is merged w/ UT that their ranking is gonna improve drastically due to all the added research, etc.

I'm sure NEOUCOM is great too though and living at home would be an ENORMOUS savings. At any rate, it's gonna be your step 1 score and grades yrs 1 and 2 that matter much more than the school you went to when it comes to residency.

MUO is a good school but regardless of their merger with UT there is no way they will be ranked in usnews considering even with the UT merger they will not have more research then OSU or Cinci. And both of those schools are on th bottom of top 50 in us news. 🙄 They might get more recognition for a while though. btw I was at cinci a few weeks ago and go to osu ... and there is so much construction going on at both schools its amazing. so if all schools are improving the theoretically the progress made by MUO becomes null and void. MUO is still a great school though
