How many polio shots(booster plus regular polio shots) have you had as a child? Have you taken a polio booster shot as an adult?

A polio vaccination is required for two of them (NY schools). I was under the impression we didn't vaccinate for Polio anymore or when I was a child (est. 1987). I am aware you can be exposed to it later in the hospital and plan on getting it, I am just wondering if this policy differs per state or what the deal is.

We definitely vaccinate against polio, and if you had all your shots you definitely got at least one, if not more. Here's the cdc vaccine schedule: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/schedules/downloads/child/0-6yrs-schedule-pr.pdf

You may be thinking of the oral vaccine which has rare cases of vaccine-induced polio and was stopped for use in the US in 2000.

Hep A was "strongly suggested" at my internship last summer (which included close clinical contact). It's a two shot series. HPV is something we should ALL do. (took my series when I was 12)

Another thing you might check is pertussis. Boosters are now recommended. (Same for chickenpox)

You have to have the discussion with your provider about HAV and HPV. Neither is required. However, as a young adult male you can too contract HPV. If your insurance company covers the vaccine and you won't be celibate over the next 8-10 years, it might be a good idea. Your PCP can answer all your questions.

How old are you btw? They didn't come out with a HPV vaccine until I was in college I believe.

The health form for the summer program I was in last year required a titer panel. I was pleased that the memory of my childhood immunizations (including hepB) were still "alive and well". 😀

If you get a booster HBV, make sure they follow up with a titer afterward. I had a booster (4th shot) without a titer, and I had to have a 5th shot. My immune system better remember after 5 attacks!

OP, I had my polio series the year I was born and another when I was 1, and again when I was 6.

Speaking of shots, just got my Tdap yesterday. My arm really hurts now.
