The Dermatology Clinical Research Unit at the University of California, San Francisco is currently accepting applications for a one to two year Dermatology Clinical Research Fellowship.

The goal of this program is to train physicians in the methods and conduct of clinical research. This includes instruction in the epidemiologic and biostatistical methods used in clinical trials including experimental design, budget and contracting, randomization methods, developing interventions and controls, measuring outcomes and adverse effects, follow up, regulatory and institutional compliance, GMP/GCP, ethical considerations, data analysis and reporting of results. There is a focus on leadership and management skills, independent protocol development, and peer-reviewed publication.

Fellows in Dermatology Clinical Research will be involved with a variety of clinical research activities including industry-sponsored trials, investigator initiated interventional studies, and observational research. Fellows will see patients in the DCRU as well as in dermatology specialty clinics, for the purpose of increasing medical knowledge and therapeutic options for the diseases under study, and to gain skills in identifying and screening patients for trials. Fellows will see patients with a variety of skin diseases and are expected to perform physical examination and disease-specific scoring metrics.

The UCSF Dermatology Clinical Research Unit is a nationally recognized center for clinical trials led by Sarah Arron, MD, PhD. The DCRU supports trials on a variety of conditions including skin cancer, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, autoimmune bullous disease, alopecia areata, and hidraadenitis suppurativa.
