I'm waiting to see what happens in Arizona with ASDOH. (Yes, I understand ASDOH is private, but conceptually the ideas are similar) 🙄 🙄 I don't doubt there are parts of eastern NC that need clinicians--but for the most part dentists go to those places where they can pay back their student loans and make and honest and fair living.
Just producing more dentists is a ridiculous solution in and of itself!!! (Probably most of you who read this were in diapers back in the 70's and 80's when the federal government tried to solve dental access issues by stipulating dental school graduate a certain quota of dentists in return for funding).
I don't think politicians, bureaucrats, or public health officials really understand or give a damn about quality of services. By and large, it just isn't something they understand
At Arizona, annual student budgets are approximately between $62 and $68 thousand per year X 4 years. I don't understand how you go to an "underserved" area and pay back $250-300 thousand in student loan debt
as well as meet other living expenses.
Is this really a "good concept" or just another stupid one??? 🙄 😕
