At a time when we are angered and frustrated with all the events following Tuesday, it seems more likely than ever before that we may, though I am against it, "be at war." And I ask you, future physicians, how you feel about this? Should we retaliate? As the Dalai Lama eloquently speaks, "our enemies are our teachers." Can't we learn from them and realize violence is not the answer? Is there no other way of finding Bin Laden and his men?

In a perfect world, the Taliban would listen to their Pakistani "friends" and hand over Bin Laden. However, I doubt it's going to happen that way. I think we're going to have to go into Afghanistan with special forces and find him, no easy task in that country. I just hope Bush doesn't commit to a massive ground invasion. Whatever happens, American lives are surely going to be lost. But I think we lost the luxury of thinking we could always prevail without the loss of American lives last Tuesday. Plus the war is not going to be restricted to just that group; there are many other affiliated organizations and even nations sponsoring terrorism which will have to be dealt with in this "war on terrorism" that Bush is talking about. On a hopeful note, Yassar Arafat went on TV and broadcast an Arabic language plea to his followers for a complete cease-fire, something he has never done before.
