HIGH POST BACHELOR FELLOWSHIPS
Application Process opens November 1, 2006 AND ENDS JANUARY 15, 2007

The Harvard Initiative for Global Health continually seeks to engage promising individuals in academic and professional pathways that positively impact global health. In an effort to meet this goal, we will award a limited number of Post Bachelor Fellowships for the 2007-2008 academic year. Our first cohort of Post-Bachelor Fellows was welcomed in the fall of 2005 and the second in September of 2006.

The Post Bachelor Fellowship Program provides opportunities for recent college graduates to train with Harvard Faculty and Senior Researchers on a variety of global heath related research projects. These multidisciplinary and multifaceted projects set out to use health metrics to characterize and understand patterns of health and burden of disease in different parts of the world. Through close mentorship and advising, Fellows will develop strong analytic skills and receive in-depth exposure to the quantitative and qualitative methods used in global health research. Fellows will train in virtually every aspect of these projects, including building econometric models, writing statistical code, and preparing presentations.

An intensive training session will cover the basic health methodologies used as well as teach the requisite statistical tools. Ongoing training sessions and mentoring opportunities with Senior Researchers will benefit Fellows, as will active participation in academic seminars and association with a supportive community of colleagues. During the spring semester, Fellows will be responsible for a presentation on their research projects to colleagues.

The Post-Bachelor Fellowship Program involves a 12-month commitment (with the possibility of renewal), commencing with training and orientation in early September. International students graduating from U.S. Institutions must have a complete 12 months of OPT (Optional Practical Training) time available on their student (F1) visa to be considered. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $2,667.00 as well as access to medical benefits, libraries, and recreation facilities at Harvard University.

Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the posting!

I have a question--do you know if most of the candidates are also applying to the MS program too? Or is this fellowship a fulltime commitment?

You're welcome :)

It's a full-time commitment. It's not really intended for you to do a master's concurrently, if that's what you're asking. That said, you do learn a lot. People generally apply straight to PhD or MD programs afterwards.
