I have been perusing some med. school's web sites and have found that quite a few request LOR from all universities you've received a degree from.
Any suggestions if you're post bacc and haven't seen a professor from your undergrad college in 5 years?
I can't imagine going to one of them next year (when I apply) and asking for a letter. Especially since medicine was not my goal back then.

Isn't there someone there who knew you pretty well?

I had to go back ~10 years after finishing undergrad & had no problem (and I also wasn't premed or thinking premed during college).

I completed a postbac program, and did not get any letters from my undergrad professors. They wouldn't remember me after 6 yrs! My school did offer a standard letter from the Dean's office that basically reviews your packet and offers general recommendations. But I didn't use that either. I went with LOR from my most recent employer.

I used profs from 4+ years ago. They remembered me.

For med school apps, I used LOR from current profs I've taken postbacc science classes with. But when I applied for a master's degree in social work in 1992, I was 4 years out of undergrad and needed LOR from undergrad profs--so I wrote very detailed letters to 2 profs reminding them which classes I took from them, special projects/papers I wrote, the grades I received, and also outlining what info I wanted them to include in a LOR. I asked them to send me a postcard I had already stamped & addressed to myself, letting me know whether they felt they could write positive LOR's for me. Both responded very quickly and both ended up writing fabulous letters.

That was a good idea Arg. I might do that myself!

I'm just worried about the dreaded, "I have no idea who you are" reply. Ugh.
