hey folks...i'm a post-bacc student to be (starting hopefully in the summer, or fall depending on which school i go to)...i finished my undergrad just about a year ago, and have decided to head back to school as a pre-med...i was looking for tips concerning volunteer work...mainly, what types of positions should i look out for at local hospitals that will give me some good experience and look good when i start applying to med schools..

thanks

Hola guapo,

1) Clinical research...you get both patient contact and research experience.

2) Look for something at a county hospital. It will give you a great understanding of what the uninsured face, and the reality of medicine for many in this country. You'll interact with people from wide backgrounds AND temperament.

3) Also look for student-run volunteer programs where you can work your way to the top and gain leadership experience.

That's what I did as an undergrad and I got a fairly good reception by med schools this year. Good luck.
