A long time ago, someone posted information about post graduate/pre med programs for disadvantaged students. Does anyone know who has them?
Thanks for your help.

UCSF: Postbaccalaureate Reapplicant Program This comprehensive, structured, postbaccalaureate program is designed for individuals who have been unsuccessful in gaining admission to medical school, in particular individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and those interested in practicing medicine in underserved communities. The program offers an intensive MCAT review, assistance with medical school application preparation, science courses, seminars on health care issues in underserved communities, and individual counseling. The program starts in June and runs through the following May. For information contact (415) 476-5348.

I also believe UCLA has a program as well as UCONN, Georgetown (GEMS), Ohio State(MEDPATH), Drexel(although not for URM's), Southern Illinois (MEDPREP), and Wayne State. However I believe that most of these application dates have passed. Well for sure MEDPATh and Uconn I believe. Drexel is still open. Anyway if you have more questions just PM me. Have a great day.

Just an FYI for the UCSF program: wanting to work with the underserved is NOT all you need to have. The requirements are as follows:

be considered disadvantaged* or be from an underserved community

be a legal resident of California

have completed an undergraduate degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university
have a minimum GPA of 2.93 or higher; minimum 2.75 GPA in the sciences

-I'm continually disappointed in the lack of post-bacc enrichment programs for non-URMs that actually want to work with the underserved. Its like they are saying "well, if you are a minority, we'll help you serve the poor community! But if you aren't a minority, and you still want to serve the poor, then good luck to you, you are on your own!"

I second this.

yeah, it is pretty sad to exlude non-urm's from programs. when i was in college i looked pretty hard for an internship one summer, and sadly, they were all for minorities 🙁. even though the programs are well intentioned, i don't think it's right to completely exclude everyone else.

I did a post-bac for URM at Southern Illinois University. It was hell moving there, but the program has an excellent reputation and prepared me well for the MCAT. It's called MEDPREP. Also, Syracuse has a website that lists all post-bacs. Check that out.
