So out of nine applications, I only received two interviews - one from Penn State and the other from GW. It's been a month since Penn State last interviewed potential candidates and I have yet to hear from them...is this normal? Or should I prepare myself for a rejection? Has anyone heard? I applied to adult clinical.

The same goes for GW, cept they finished Mar 3rd and I was told decisions would be made by Mar 15th. Has anyone heard?

Seriously, I don't know why admissions committees take so long to set up interviews and give out decisions...do they enjoy prolonging the torture? Or do they just like to slack off until April 15th? Sigh... 🙁 I would have thought that after the interviews, all they need to do is sit down and discuss - two days at the most; and perhaps arrange for funding - another two days. Maybe this agonising wait is a prerequisite for admission to clinical psych programs...if you falter and email/call them, you will be rejected. 😕

it took me a month to get mine. call the place but don't give them your name and ask if the admissions committee has made decisions, just don't ask for your individual result or else you are basically screwing yourself. hope that helps.

I interviewed at the child track at Penn State and I know that both tracks have made their first round of offers. I hadn't heard anything either and I had to initiate contact with the profs to find out where I stood. I found out that I am sort of an alternate there for child, and it's possible I will still get an offer, according to the prof.
I am not sure if you feel comfortable asking or if you would rather wait. I wouldn't have known where I stood if I hadn't. I imagine they won't send out official rejections until all of their spots are filled. Getting another offer is usually when most people initiate contact with those programs that haven't said anything, but I didn't have one and the prof was very honest in her answer as to the situation.
I agree that it sucks that they don't tell you right away unless you are accepted, it is really stressful. Good luck!

i agree. i think it's RIDICULOUS that schools/admission committees don't give a timeline of events and when they will happen. i mean WE have deadlines for applications and i think they should have them for making decisions. i also think there should be a standardized process for the application process. some schools don't give ANY info as to how they do things and we are left to wait and wonder. hopefully you will hear something very soon. good luck! 🙂

You'd think it would be to the school's benefit to give some sort of rough timeline of events, such as saying you should hear about interviews by X date and by acceptances by X. It would save their admin people from having to field so many calls.

To the OP: hang in there. Because the process is not more standard, there have to be accepted applicants at your top choices who are waiting to hear from other schools. Plus, I'm sure some people hold more than one acceptance, even though APA says not to do this. I think being wait listed at two schools should give you a good shot.

Guys, schools take so long because most of them want to make the best, most informed decision possible. No one wants to admit or reject someone they interviewed based on "instinct" or from a "gut reaction." Just give the respective programs the benefit of the doubt, especially the big research places like PSU, where faculty are admitting students into their labs essentially as colleagues.

Yeah, I believe the expectation is that applicants should not keep more than two offers open at any one time. I haven't even finished with my interviews. I have one coming up this week. The wait is unreal.

The wait is killing me too. I check my email and snail mail compulsively. My future for the next four to five years rests in the hands of a commitee. If that does not make a person anxious i dont know what will. Good luck to all. :scared:

Anyone else apply to nyc area clinical programs????
