OK, in leui of the congratulatory responses to our beloved lady in red, i want to create a thread that allows those that have interviewed and HEARD something to share their results. If you interviewed and have received a response please let us know. Tell us you interview date and the date you recieved a response. I guess if you have interviewed and are still waiting, provide the interview date. This way those of us that are waiting will have an idea about turn around times.

I interviewed Jan.30th and haven't heard a peep (as expected). Figuring next month or so.

Epi, Lady in Red, Wahoo, Isa, Jessica, etc...Congratulations!!  :D

Interviewed 11/5, received letter on 1/26 (postmarked 1/23). Almost 12 weeks!

Good luck, souljah! Hope to meet you during 2nd look weekend.

Interviewed 2/5...still waiting. I'm praying that there will be something when I get home today (for some reason or another, even though they said it could take more than 8 weeks! I'm hoping for three!) :D

I interviewed in mid-January and am still waiting. I'm conditioning myself to think I won't hear until the end of March at the earliest, hoping that will keep me from rushing home every day to check my mailbox. I'm not sure it's working.

i heard yesterday. interviewed in december. i'm on the high priority list. blah.

Interview: 12/04
Acceptance: 02/22

Good luck to everyone.

oooooooooooooo.... i am so happy for every1. and so jealous too :D

i interviewed either jan 2 or 3. still no word!
well doesnt seem like ne1 that interviewed january or later has heard yet (now i wish i took that december 13 date!)

Great idea souljah1! Since we're all going to be classmates in the Fall, I applaud your effort to get us organized.

Interview: 1/10
Acceptance: no word yet (expected after 3/7)

I interviewed on 11/19 and received my acceptance on 1/24.

Hope you receive some good word from them in the next month or so--good luck!

Thanks for replying and thanks for agreeing that this thread serves a useful purpose. So, it really does look like 8 weeks is the minimum so far. Ugh. That means I might have to wait until April. Epi mentioned on another thread that he was told very little acceptances went out for the December batch so I'm hoping the January batch is abundant!! And yes, I really do hope all of us will be classmates next year. You all appear to be wonderfully kind.

Jan30th and counting........

Interviewed 11/5/01. Got the big envelope 1/25/02.

Interviewed 2/13.

It's only been 2 weeks and I'm already getting impatient. Only 6 weeks (minimum) of waiting left!!

I would just like to intrude on the UCSF post and say that as much as I'd like to be souljah's classmate, his heart is in Cali :(

Good luck buddy

Aww Kermie, you are so sweet.

Yes, my medical school crush is, without a doubt, on UCSF and has been so for 5 years. With that said, I appreciate our compradery and I am very glad to know that if I do end up on the east coast, you will be my clasmate. I know you are not down with the CA scene and I appreciate your comments. You never know what will happen, it is that aspect of the unknown that is both grueling and exciting.

The hotter the battle the sweeter the victory.

I've been to CA twice, once when I was eight and I saw San Fran and San Jose. The second was three years ago when I was in LA and SD. If I had a CA residency or the numbers, he he, I'd be all over Stanford :)

Interviewed 12/4. High priority list 2/20. UCSF is by far my first choice, so I'm gearing up for the emotional roller-coaster ride I'll be taking until May when we are ranked, and then either accepted, waitlisted, or informed our "application has not been successful."

Crossing fingers,
Caliboy

Had 2 great interviews with faculty on 12/18, did not hear anything yet (9th week now), probably will be rejected shortly....

Interviewed Feb 20. I think it went well.
I'm never going to survive this wait. I keep checking my mailbox every morning when I wake up.

Please, Please Please--Let me get in.

hi,

I interviewed on 12/5 and received an acceptance on 1/23.

Somebody is going to kill me for posting about UCSF yet AGAIN :D , but what can i do--I love this school!
My response time was 8 weeks to the date! Acceptance letter dated 2/20, and I interviewed on either 19 or 20 of December.
Playa, don't assume anything yet! They have accepted very few people, and it might just be your interviewers have not written a report on you, who knows! I wish that everyone who wants to get in--gets in! So we can share the joy!

Lady,

How do you know that they have accepted very few people? You have the insider's scoop already? :D

Nope, I think Epi called them (he posted that) and they told him that info. I know, sounds like gossip, but I think he is right: its WAAy too early, they still have March 15 (their largest mailing date, per BeckyG and Deborah in admissions office) and April 15th!
I wish I had insider scoop...but I know how you feel, it was plain torture for me to wait. So if there is anything i know that will ease off the suffering (like the SDN did for me during the wait), i'll gladly share the info.

Hey lady red, so do you think a long time for response is good or bad? UCSF is definitely my #1 choice, since I live in millbrae. If I get in, i hope to commute from home and live with my loving family. I go to UCLA now and I'm tired of LA. I hope I get in, and if I do, we will definitely be classmates next year. :)

hey guys

update:

interview 1/2 or 1/3, reject 3/2 (today)

hope you have better luck than me

Hey Matt,

Sorry to hear that. I was pulling for you. Question for you..Did you feel your interviews went well? In other words, when you left your visit at UCSF did you have any gut feeling?

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your results. I enjoyed your posts and was hoping that both of us would get into UCSF.

Wish me luck.

Just got "High Priority" today too...

I waited 14 weeks to be told to wait more...

Like someone told me before.. i guess they were trying hard to decide to admit or waitlist me... I got the shorter end...

Meizy,

Keep your faith. You are still in the race. Do you live in CA? By the looks of it, it seems that they must have sent out waitlists/rejections recently. Just wondering a little about geographics. I wish you the best. :p

hey souljah, yeah i enjoy your posts too! oh well. maybe i'll see you at another school? where else are you applying? but actually, i hope i don't -- hopefully, you'll have better luck at ucsf, that is :D

as for the interviews, my first one went pretty well. i thought it was good. not krazy good, but definitely among my better interviews. the second one was good too... *until* he got to the abortion question. we disagreed pretty strongly there, but i thought it was a good discussion, i stated my position and said that i respected his... but i left feeling a little sick that perhaps i had damaged my chances. but anyways, i'm not going to be bitter and say that that was the reason i did not get in. ucsf is a very competitive school to get in, and that's just how it goes

lemme know how it goes for you. don't you live in the bay area? if you didn't get a letter today, maybe you are in good shape :D

Matt,

I'm actually living in NYC this year. So, things take a bit longer to reach me over here. (My permanent address is in Berkeley though).

Hmmm..I don't think a disagreement is grounds for an unfavorable interview..Who knows how all of these decisions are made. You have done very well for yourself at other schools, which makes me very glad to know that you will be attending a great school somewhere.

The only other UC to offer me an interview so far has been UCI. UCSD put me on hold, UCD rejected me presecondary, and UCLA is chilling with my complete application. It has all been quite strange. My day at UCSF went really well, but I'm not too sure on how much to bank on good interviews. I keep telling myself 50%, but I'm not the type to count my chickens before they hatch..

Wish you the best at UCLA.

Souljah

Souljah1--

Thanks for your words! This wait is really hard! Even harder since I don't have an acceptance but 4 waitlists..

Yeah, I live in LA, CA.

Did you like UCI? Let me know when you hear. I interviewed on 2/21 so it might be awhile too... but i loved the school, more than i thought i would...

Here is what they said on the waitlist... in case people are curious..

"All applicants in the high priority category are reviewed and ranked during the spring. After this final review, applicants in High Priority are either offered admission, placed on the alternate list, or informed that their application has been unsuccessful. The number of applicants in the High priority category that are ultimately offered admission varies each year, but generally ranges between 20-30% of the total group. We expect to finish our review/ranking by about may 15th, and will inform you of your status as soon as possible thereafter...."

good luck everyone still waiting to hear!
"

Meizy,

Thanks for the info.

I like UCI but I am not really a southern cali kind of guy. I interviewed at UCSF two days before my UCI interview so the differences were apparent.

I am all about the curriculum/location/class hours/you name it..at UCSF. The students at UCI were really nice and the campus was really enjoyable as well, but I don't like the 20 mile drive (or whatever it was) to the hospital. Every thing at UCSF appeared to be easily accessible.

Another thing, a student at UCI told me that a lot of the classes are taught by PhDs. That is cool, but I wonder how much clinical insight they will be able to provide. I feel confident that the integrated curriculum at UCSF will always be tying it back to medicine.

Hang in there. From what it sounds like, many people get off the waitlist. I suspect that if I will be hearing the wonderful news, it will be sent somewhere around the March 15th cycle. (word has it that this is the largest mailing date). That would be around 6-7 weeks since my interview. Otherwise, maybe april. We shall see.

Practicing all sorts of deep breathing and relaxation techniques...

Souljah

thanks for the encouragement, souljah!

meizy, good luck!
about uci, i withdrew before interview so i guess i don't have a first-hand look, but i worked there over the summer at the medical center in orange. souljah makes a good pt that it is somewhat annoying to drive between irvine and orange, but i doesn't bother me as much. i don't think it's 20 miles tho. goes by quick -- it's a socali thing :D also, i like how it's right across from "the block", this nice outdoors mall complex. i took breaks there all the time :D

but anyways, i did get to meet some current/former med students from irvine at the med center, and they all really liked it. what irvine i guess is known for is how nice every1 is and how well they get along with each other. if you can get past the fact that uci is unranked, i'm sure you will enjoy the school/environs/weather/etc

bumpin' this up for souljah b/c he is getting his zzz's!

Do you think that as it gets later in the cycle, UCSF will get quicker about sending out responses? For example, they are still interviewing, but if the applicants hear in 8-10 weeks, then that's mid-May for people that interviewed this week, and late May or June for anyone interviewing later....

Ugghhh.. Anytime I hear of someone getting rejected by UCSF post interview I can feel my stomach lurch. I really hope this works out and we all get into the best school in the world.

I just realized that D-DAY III is approaching! EEEK! Now that Lady in Red has been accepted who is going to start the "UCSF D-DAY III" thread? What do you think the chance of hearing in this cycle are if I interviewed early February?

Early feb..I'm not sure about that. I spoke to someone in the admissions office and they said anywhere from 6-14 weeks is the norm. Nice range huh

That would put you a little shy of 6. I interviewed on Jan30th, so I am hoping that my app will be reviewed for this batch.

I wouldn't start the "D-Day" thread until the 15th atleast..They have been sending envelopes a little later than the 15th, perhaps they'll be on time this month?

Good luck :D

I think they are interviewing through march and possibly into early april. If they sent you a secondary they must know that there is ample time to consider you. Anyone who gets a secondary has already made a big step in the process (1 of 5000 to 1 of around 1500) so I wouldn't hang my head just yet. There is still quite a bit of time left. I wish you the best

Hey, how about a UCSF 'interview for an apartment"? I just rented one today, right around campus, and, I'll tell ya--it was harder than getting the acceptance at the school!! I was more nervous talking to landlords than to the interviewers!!!!!

Congratulations on finding an apartment, Lady! Now that you've got one for yourself, wanna start looking for one for me? :)

All I know is that I can't wait until April 15th for a decision. Somehow I've got to think that the later in the process they go, the shorter they should take to make decisions. They surely aren't going to tell people who interview at the end of this month results at the end of May, are they? I'm just hoping for some type of closure to this ordeal. It's at best going to be a waitlist.

Also, the last two times they sent decisions around the 20th. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again this month (which is good for me, because that'll actually bring me to the 6 week point!)

ACCEPT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I got desperate.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Hey Wahoo--I posted my apartment story at the UCSF board. By the way, I got the JMP letter--i'm really overboard now. JMP sounds so attractive, i dunno which one? what swayed your decision in favor of UCSF vs. JMP? 4 vs 5 years? Thesis? lack/accesibility of clinical campus?

ConstantlyWaiting--I remember your really nice email to me when i was going through the same waiting hell. I don't know what to tell you except to keep hope. Did you get any other acceptances or are you dead-set on UCSF, like me? I really sincerely hope you get in, and I think the wait time will shrink for this month, since they have to issue a large number of letters to make up for the previous months when only a fraction was admitted--remember, they have to say yes to 250 or so students!

Lady in Red: Congrats on your choice between UCSF and the JMP! You really can't go wrong there. Did you get your JMP acceptance in the mail? I thought they called people. When did you hear from them? I know they meet once a month, and I'm hoping to hear soon. You must feel like a different person now having gotten into your top choice school(s), but I'm still feeling like you were in the days before you heard!!

Hi Lady in Red,

I did not apply to the JMP program, but two of the reasons I did not were: 1) you take all of your "basic science" classes at Berkeley and 2) the curriculum for JMP is not as integrated (clinical and basic sciences) as our new curriculum at the UCSF campus. Plus, I really didn't want to be in such a small class for two years; 140 is a good mix - for me, 10-12 just seemed too small. Hope this is helpful,

Becky
