I am an IMG trained in El Salvador in Central America, my idea is to take the MCQ later this year (around November) but I'm a little confused with the whole process and was hopping that some of you could help me to get more accurate information.

First of all, doctorconnect says that since I'm already a doctor i need to apply for a temporary work visa; which I can't because I'm not AMC certified yet; so that means I'll have to get an student visa first (either subclass 574 or 575) and I don't even know what the difference is betwen them or if there's another one that I need to ask for.

Second, getting a medical degree in my country takes a little more than the average ammount of time anywhere else (for what i've heard at least); I just graduated after 6 years of study, 1 year of internship and another year working for the government of my country. So I'm not sure if i have to repeat my intern year once I get there. And following the same line, I know that in some territories/cities like Sydney, Melbourne and recently Brisbane, you need to have succesfully passed both AMC tests; but I also remember reading somewhere that there were some places where you could start working with just you MCQ, do you guys know anything about this? or have any link I can visit to clarify some of my doubts?

And at last, my main interest at the momment is Surgery, so far I've been in a couple observerships worldwide, have 2 articles published as well, and I'm willing to spend the next 6-10 years of my life stuck in a hospital to become a plastic surgeon  Can anyone tell me how difficult is it to get into a Surgery Residency in there? not necessarily in Sydney or Melbourne; to be honest Royal Perth Hospital is my first choice so far but I'd love feedback from anywhere.

Any information would be greatly apreciated
Thanx for your time

Hello Rodrigo, I think we have same dream, but the differences are I want to take my license in NZ and I am interested in Neurosurgery.

I read other posts recently, and I concluded that becoming a fellow (other word for specialist) is somewhat hard and difficult for IMG (especially in Aussie-I have no idea about NZ, but I've heard it is pretty easier). I don't know the truth.

FYI: Aussie and NZ have the same Fellowship for surgeon, and many others specialty.

For now, I am still looking out.

Ward Regards,
Munich.
