Hi all,
I'm graduated as Doctor for general practise in tunisia(5 years of study + 2 years as intership). My family is relocation to Dublin and I have to fellow them. I want to study there and to be a specialist, so to register for full registration as specialist.
I've searched in the Internet to see if they have residency program in Ireland. It seems that this term (residency) is not common in Ireland. Any way, I found phD trainning, Master training but not residency program. what I have to choose to get a specialisation there ?
My understanding is that I have to register first for Temporary registration in the medical council. Second I have to found a course, training program ? what training to be a specialist. ?
Is it free, as I'm postgraduate ? are there any financial aid ? do I have to pay for courses or training?
Can any one help to clarify these things step by step, I'm confused, and I don't really don't know how to start.
thank you in advance

Essentially, you have to pass the required exams from the Irish Medical Council to get temporary registration.
Involves MCQs and clinical component.

Once you've passed, you can apply for SHO (senior house officer) jobs. These jobs are classed as "basic specialist training" and are expected to pass all the postgraduate exams in this time. Then after 2-3 years, you can apply for SpR jobs (Specialist Registrar) which last 41/2 -5 years before you can apply to become a consultant. A large percentage go on to do a 1-2 year fellowship to specialise in their field as consulant jobs are in short supply.
For G.P. jobs, you must apply for a GP training scheme (GP = General Practice = Family Practice in North America)
They are highly competitive as the job is well paid with a good life.

Good luck!
