Pre-dental club??

Hey all! Long time reader, first time contributor. This site is such a wonderful resource for all of us pre-dents! I was wondering if any of you had/have a "pre-dental club" at your university? No such club exists at my school and I was wondering what goes into starting one. Right now I'm forced to go to the pre-med meetings to get any health related info. It'd be nice to break away from the hyper-competitive pre-meds and give us pre-dents a voice of our own! Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks!!!

I will not be able to help you with how you can start a new Pre-Dental Club at your university, but I would like to make a friendly suggestion so you can learn and receive more dental related info. The best thing to do is to join American Student Dental Assocation (ASDA) with a "Pre-Dental" membership.

This website has some starters for an ASDA pre-dental club - <a href="http://www.geocities.com/asda10/10.html." target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/asda10/10.html.</a> It's on the bottom of the first page. That should help you out.

To have a pre-dental club recognized by ASDA, all you need is five members who are pre-dental members of ASDA. Check out the link Yah-E gave on becoming a pre-dental member - there are some great benefits on joining ASDA.

There is an ASDA consultant who is in charge of pre-dental clubs and pre-dental membership and can help you out with ideas and suggestions. The current one is Evelyn Vu-Tien, e-mail her your questions at [email protected].

Also, check out this web-site - <a href="http://www.ttu.edu/pre-dental." target="_blank">www.ttu.edu/pre-dental.</a> They seem to have some good ideas that should help you get started.

Talk to your health professions advisor, find out who all is pre-dent. Talk with them about forming this club, and also ask one of your favorite prof.s if he/she might be willing to help you along the way as most clubs have a sponsoring professor. The most important thing is this: Begin.

Thanks for all your help guys. All those links you provided were great. I joined ASDA earlier this year, so it seems like my next step would be finding the other pre-dents at my school. I'll talk to my advisor, and hopefully get something started next year.

Acutally I just recently was one of the founding members of my pre-dental club and I helped to make our club a chapter of ASDA. Also i served as its treasurer and now the President, so I know the ins and outs. If you have any questions just email me and i'll be glad to help
