Just out of curiosity, I am a student and this is by no means a question on a test or exam. Since increasing your heart rate and stroke volume is good on your cardiac out put and exercising increasing contractility would a pre-workout have the same affect ? It does have caffeine would that make the volume of blood less if it makes your heart irregular?

Great question!! Not really a clear answer To this. While physiology, exercise physiology and ergogenically enhanced physiology all work on different concepts, end result of increased CO changes differently as well, depending what you ask for.

IMMEDIATE elevation in cardiac output will happen quicker by some ergogenic AIDS as they help you accelerate HR quicker. In itself, this is not, however, but a great catalyst to getting the body going through exercise.

However, with regards to stimulants, there is always the risk of awakening underlying irritant foci in the heart that may be subclinical otherwise. This would then likely DECREASE cardiac output, due to less sync'd SV.

Caffeine is the world's most used stimulant and the prevalence of people with physiological foci in the heart that never leads to anything else can still be "provoked" by vigorous exercise or sudden stimulations.

While this may be a wider and less focused answer than a simple yes/no, the question is a good and wide one. If we had a clear answer to this, our sports world would be more united as well.

Finally, the effect of this, compared to workout is obviously not as much, but still can help push you the little extra you need.
