if you're fortunate to have ~10 interviews, do you think it's wise to drop an interview for a place you're not considering highly to make the preinterview dinner for a place you are?

Keep in mind that this is a sample size of 1... but I dropped an interview to make a preinterview dinner for somewhere I was excited about and ended up ranking the place number 1 and matching it. Totally worth not going on yet another interview.

Yeah makes perfect sense if it's a program you really want to go to. Plus the OP will probably get even more interviews than now anyway.
