Hello,

I'm new to MCAT discussion and the MCAT all together. I'm preparing to prepare for studying of the exam and I'm looking for advice. I hope I'm at the right place.
1. Through your experiences, what is the best means of preparing for the MCAT. I notice that many of you are taking some online courses (Kaplan). I'm not familiar with this - how much does it cost? Are the lessons live or taped, are they helpful.
2. What MCAT books do you recommend?
3. What is the "typical process for the preparation of the MCAT?
4. How much time should I expect to commit to the process? (I suspect it's different for everybody; maybe your experiences would be helpful).

I'm all ears to any advice that you may have! Sincerely, Lawguil

there are, like, a million threads about all these things already-- just scroll down the list. . .

you are at the right place. Without the help of SDN I would be forced to take a MCAT prep course to have the proper guidance.

devoting 8-10 weeks seems to be the norm for those that want to make a commitment to a study schedule.

The answers to these questions depend on your own capabilities.

There are many on this board that got a 35+ with studying intensely the last 3 weeks before the test. Then there are others who have to study a few months to do well, because they are not used to timed tests and need to learn and get used to the format of the test.

Pretty much the key is take a diagnostic and see where you stand. That will help you determine how much work you have cut out for you.
